% Y- v  j6 k) ~  m* P" L- M6 K(Fort McMurray, AB – October 16, 2009) – The Alberta Association of Canadian Institute of Planners (AACIP) 2009 Conference is taking place in Fort McMurray from October 18 to 20, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

- {; m' \# h* ], ]- V/ g( r- J5 r# ~Approximately 175 planning professionals from across Canada will attend the AACIP 2009 Conference. The theme for this year’s event is “Making it Work, Making it Last, Making it Home”.

' s4 |5 P! F3 Z7 J/ H# |) W8 ~“For the first time ever the AACIP Conference is being held in Fort McMurray, so this is a great opportunity for planners to gain firsthand exposure to the region,” said Tara Steell, Conference Co-chair.

“A great deal of work has gone into the planning of this event and we hope the attendees enjoy everything Wood Buffalo has to offer,” said Jamie Doyle, Conference Co-chair.

Planners will learn of our region’s challenges and successes. From unprecedented growth, to regulatory practices, to sustaining the environment and natural resources, Wood Buffalo is a planner’s paradise.

The conference sessions will be held primarily at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre. Sessions will feature workshops, educational sessions and guest speakers including Maclean’s National Editor, Andrew Coyne. Registrants also have the option of taking mobile tours through Fort McMurray, fly to Fort Chipewyan, or visit the oilsands.
